WATCH: Zoo tries to disguise golden retriever as lion
Updated | By East Coast Radio
While golden retrievers are majestic creatures, we wouldn't go as far as saying they're the king of the jungle.
Golden retrievers are one of the most beloved dog breeds in the world and they certainly could be considered the dog version of a lion.

While the two might resemble each other in colour and hair length, any person would be able to tell you that the resemblance stops there.
However, a zoo in southwestern China tried to bamboozle its customers by claiming that they had a lion in one of its enclosures although through closer inspection it was clear that this was no African big cat.

Visitors were shocked and confused when they came across the exhibit, obviously expecting to see a beautiful African lion, but were met with a beautiful, and very domesticated golden retriever instead!
In a video clip taken by a man named- Tang, who was one of the visitors, you can clearly see the dog in the cage that has signage indicating that a lion should be in this enclosure.
You can watch the video below:

The incident took place at the Yuanjiashan Zoo in Xichang, Sichuan, and Tang mentions in the video that at first, they thought they might have ended up at the wrong enclosure but soon realised that they did not a mistake but the zoo did.
Tang also jokes: "Is that an African lion? Is it because it hasn’t grown up yet?"

A zoo employee explained that a lion had been housed there and has since been moved and they have not updated the signs yet although it has also been mentioned that there were no lions present anywhere else in the zoo.
The dog apparently belongs to the zoo owner.
This also isn't the first time a zoo has tried to pass of animals as different species.
