WATCH: 'Dad of the Year' put his life on the line to save son from raging bull

When things get messy at the rodeo, one can only imagine the worst...
With two dads on the team now, you realise just how much fathers can be present and how huge the love for their children is.
This one saw his son in a dangerous situation - he could have been seriously injured or even mauled to death.

The young man, Cody Hooks (18), was flung off this bull's back soon after entering the ring at a rodeo in Texas.
In the video, you'll see him unconscious on the ground after being thrown off the animal.
Handlers in the ring tried in vain to keep the the raging bull in order, as it kept charging towards the unconscious teen.

Fortunately for Cody, his father was at hand to save him from certain injury.
Landis Hooks (40) made himself his son's shield - he covered his head and pressed him to the ground as the bull charged towards them.
According to Houston Chronicle, Landis even took the brunt of the bull's anger. He was hit in the head by the rampaging animal but managed to save his son from grievous harm.
Hair-raising footage of the moment was shared online by Cody Hooks, who thanked his father and other bullfighters for saving him from what could have been a very ugly situation.

Social media, as usual, chipped in, praising Landis Hooks for jumping in without a second thought.
"A father willing to lay down his life for his son!" remarked one commenter.
On Twitter, he was hailed as 'Dad of the Year'.
