VIRAL: SA “ice queen” cools down in bath meters away from beach
Updated | By East Coast Radio
If only there was a cool body of water she could relax in…
Sea Point in Cape Town is one of South Africa’s foremost beaches whose chilly waters welcome bathers for a cool off. While the cold Atlantic waters might not be for everyone, especially Durbanites used to warm conditions, it is a must.
But forget the ice cold waters of the Cape, one woman who took an ice bath on the beach left onlookers flabbergasted.
Check out this viral video that has Mzansi in stitches:
@waarswouter #wouterwonder - hoekom gaan cold plunge die Tannie in ‘n opblaas badjie langs die see? Hoeveel sakky ys moes sy aandra? Hoekom wil sy nie eerder in die yskoue see gaan submerge en cold plunge nie? En as die ys dan nou smelt…. Ek het soveel vrae…. ————- #wouterwonder is sommer vrae wat ek hardop vra. ——— #wouterwonder #woutervideo #icebath #submerge #colplunge #bantrybay #capetown #afrikaanstiktoks ♬ original sound - Wouter Lombard
TikToker Wouter Lombaard, @waarswouter, is the user who shared this out-of-the-ordinary moment.
As captured in the video above, the lounger filled an inflatable tube with ice cubes and water, then chilled out in her unconventional beach set-up. The crazy part is, she didn’t even face the ocean!

She may have missed the view but at least now she doesn’t have to worry about washing off any sand.
- Here are some mixed reactions shared by social media users:
- Ok I really need to know how she got all that ice down there
- Hahahahaha! Inderdaad! ice made from Evian bottled
- This tannie is everything…unbothered. Confusing everyone just because she can lol
- This is freaking hilarious
- Just a regular day in Cape Town
All jokes aside, maybe she may not be comfortable in her swimming abilities and this is an ideal solution to join her family or friends at the beach? If it is just a gag or preference, as one user says, “Each to their own".
This #OnlyInSouthAfrica moment is brightening up social media feeds.
