VIDEO: Mom gives birth on the side of a busy highway

For vloggers Troy and Erika Campbell, documenting their pregnancy process was something that they have been passionate about. The couple were hoping to share the pregnancy journey with their child at some point in the future. When Erika went into labour, they used the car’s dashboard camera to record their journey – which ended up recording their baby’s birth mid-way to the hospital on the side of a busy highway.

In the video, which the couple shared on their YouTube page, the couple is seen joking about what middle name they should give their unborn child as they start counting the minutes between Erika’s contractions.

When Erika’s contractions became three-and-a-half minutes apart, the couple call their midwife from the car where an ecstatic Tony says, “This baby is coming!”

Erika told CBC News that her water had broken that afternoon, but she wasn't feeling much pain.

However, the tone quickly changes a few minutes later when Erika tells Tony that she needs to push. “You gotta push? What do you mean you gotta push?” Tony says. Tony and Erika reveal that they were still ten minutes away from the hospital so he called the midwife to update her about the development.

The midwife explains that Tony should pull over and call an ambulance. When they contact the dispatcher, Erika shouts “I’m having a baby on the 407!”

When the car has pulled over, Tony asks the dispatcher to help him through the process. “It’s coming out! It’s almost out! Tell me what to do please!” he yells.

A moment later, their beautiful girl was born. Luckily, an ambulance arrived moments later and the family was taken to the hospital where Erika and the baby were both deemed healthy and given the OK.

“It happened so fast,” Troy told CTV News Channel after the video went viral on YouTube. “You go through so many emotions, you're scared, you're very excited, you're stressed, like all these sorts of emotions.”

Troy adds that the response they have received from the video has been overwhelming. “We were kind of on the fence of sharing it and we did and the response has been crazy to know that so many people are going on this roller-coaster ride with us and people are enjoying it, people are crying tears of joy,” Troy said.

Erika adds: “I've had the same reaction too when I first saw the video, and everyone's comments… I didn't think that they would feel the same way that I felt when I first saw my video.”
