Is vaping ruining your sleep? Here’s what you need to know

A sleep expert explains how vaping can stop you from getting a good night's sleep.

It seems like every day we’re finding out more and more about why vaping
is ruining our lives. If you’re a chronic vaper struggling to get a good
night’s sleep, your bedtime habit might be to blame.
We all know that things like caffeine, alcohol, and scrolling through our phones can mess with sleep – but did you know vaping is on that list, too?
Sleep expert Martin Seeley explains how vaping can dry out your throat, mess with your airways, and even make you snore like a chainsaw.
Let’s break it down.

1. Dry throat = rough mornings
Ever woken up feeling like you swallowed a desert? That’s because vaping contains propylene glycol, a common ingredient that pulls moisture from your throat.
The result? A parched, irritated airway that makes sleeping comfortably a challenge.
2. Your airways are taking a hit
Nicotine might give you a buzz, but it also relaxes the muscles in your throat. When that happens, your airways can partially collapse, making it harder to breathe properly while you sleep.
That’s bad news for your sleep quality and could lead to even bigger health issues down the line.
3. Snoring like a bear? Blame your vape
A dry throat plus airway obstruction equals snoring. And not the cute, soft kind. We’re talking about loud, rumbling, “wake-up-your-partner” level snoring. That’s because dry, irritated tissues vibrate more, making snoring worse.
If your snoring has been getting out of hand, your vape habit might be the culprit.
What can you do?
Obviously, the easiest and most efficient fix is to quit vaping. However, if you’re not ready to quit, you can try:
Avoid vaping before bed to give your throat time to recover. Maybe try smoking some sweet oxygen. It’s not as bad as you think.
Stay hydrated. Drink more water to combat dryness and rehydrate your throat, especially just before bed.
Sleep on your side as this helps keep your airways open.
Upgrade your pillows. Proper support for your head can reduce snoring, and help your body inhale oxygen (while you sleep) easier.
At the end of the day, if you’re serious about getting better sleep, cutting back on vaping (or quitting altogether) is your best bet.
Sweet dreams start with better habits.
