The Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering is coming back to KZN

Are you ready for the Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering, KZN?
This coming weekend will see the 10th Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering, which returns to the KZN Midlands.
After a break of five years, the popular festival returns on Saturday, 10 September.

To be entertained by the distinctive sounds of bagpipes, drums, marching bands, and all things Scottish will be a real treat.
The Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering is typically a day of nostalgia, heritage, and ancient tradition
The rousing spectacle includes athletic prowess and beautiful music, which will be celebrated in abundance.

Spectators can witness games like tossing the caber; tug-o’-war, walk the weight, the kilted mile; hammer throw; weight over the bar and stone, put just to name a few.
The games portion of the event has been sponsored by Kings Arms in memory of Doug Kirton.
This year’s event will feature a range of stalls that are local, as well as Midlands-based merchandise.
From food to beverage stalls; field demos, dog events; and children’s activities like face-painting and jumping castles - there will be fun for everyone to enjoy.

In attendance will be the Pietermaritzburg and the Durban Caledonians, the First Medical and Pietermaritzburg Caledonian Pipe bands.
Victor Muhlenbeck, who is one of the organisers of the event, is thrilled to have the event back in KZN: "We are delighted to be able to host the Fort Nottingham Highland Gathering again after the long Covid Lockdown. Like so many other events, starting up again is always something of a challenge."
Fort Nottingham is a small village just up the road from the vibrant town of Nottingham Road and one of the gems of the Midlands.
