Listen to the podcast or read the details below:
Google is planning on pulling Huawei's access to Android's core accounts. This means that the Chinese brand faces restrictions on using basic apps such as Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps, Chrome, and Google Play Store.
The change essentially bans the Chinese phone and tablet-maker from integrating Google software and core apps into any of its future products.
In Huawei's media statement, they have responded to questions by saying they will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products.
"Huawei has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android’s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry. Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally. We will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally," they said.
What does this mean for you?
According to Techradar, Huawei will no longer be able to offer access to crucial Google apps and will be severely limited in how quickly it can give users access to the latest versions of Android, and the new features and security updates those offer.
