While there has been very little update on the incident that rocked the nation, last night there was a press conference that shared a groundbreaking update.
According to TimesLive: "KwaZulu-Natal police on Tuesday said six people linked to the murders of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, renowned chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, have been arrested."
Police Minister Bheki Cele, along with the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, shared that the first suspect had already appeared in court and had been arrested as far back as April 2023. It is known that the six suspects have played different roles in the murder.
There’ve been things that have been done (to find them). From us in the national office, we congratulate the men in blue. They did not sleep until it was done. The first person was arrested in April last year.- Bheki Cele
The suspects are due in court from Thursday, while they are on the hunt for another suspect, allegedly hiding in Eswatini.
"I hope South Africans will have a better sleep after this," Cele said.
Sowetan Live breaks down the roles of the different suspects, as shared in the police statement: “We have a co-ordinator, he is in custody, two shooters and one was inside observing Mr Forbes in the restaurant. The spotter followed Mr Forbes all the way from the airport when he arrived. The second suspect supplied firearms and vehicles.
"The third is a shooter linked to another murder case. We have another spotter who was outside the restaurant. We also have another spotter linked to another case and a shooter linked to another case. We have a total of four vehicles, firearms, and cartridges.”
Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes loved his country. Mzansi has extended the utmost respect, compassion, and prayers to those who were fortunate enough to be part of his music legacy.
While many mourn the death of this beloved rapper, there has been a public outcry regarding safety in the province.
