Should schools have Sport in their curriculum?

'School sport should also be included in our schooling system'

We all know that school is all about academics and that many parents aren't too thrilled about sports during school times. 

These sports can be considered physical education, which is something that more and more schools are starting to get total use of it in order for their students to remain in physical shape.

Well, that is soon going to change if the Minister of Sport has anything to say about it...

According to Business Tech, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, has stated that school sports are part of the academic curriculum. 

He was adamant that sport is one of the things that can bring many people together. 

"School sport and physical education are contained in the National Development Plan and are integral to development in the country", says Zizi.

The Minister had reflected his sentiments at the recently held National School Sport Indaba

The indaba had gathered sports leaders and administrators, representatives in education, international experts, government officials, former players, and activists in the sports sector under the theme: ‘Towards an integrated and united school sport system’.

To transform the educational landscape and nurture well-rounded individuals, there's a growing movement in SA advocating for the inclusion of sports in the official school curriculum. 

This call is not just about physical activity; it's about instilling essential life skills, fostering teamwork, and promoting a culture of holistic well-being among the nation's youth.

If you look at the many tournaments SA has either been involved in or hosted, the argument may have a point like the Netball World Cup, Women's Football World Cup and etc.

Sport is more than just a game; it's a vehicle made for personal development. Making it an integral part of the school curriculum opens up a world of opportunities for young minds. 

It provides a platform to discover and hone talents, instils discipline, and encourages a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
