Serious changes are coming ahead for home schools in SA

Serious changes on the horizon for homeschooling in South Africa.

As the school holidays are on the go, there have been some policies that have been amended by Basic Educational Laws Amendment Bill.

Homeschooling is an education programme where children attend school at home instead of going to school with other kids. 

Homeschooling has had its own processes to ensure that kids are educated.

According to Business Tech, changes are afoot for home schools. There are big changes that are set to redefine homeschooling in SA which could have an impact heading into 2024. 

This was because there has been scrutiny of the Basic Educational Laws Amendment Bill (BELA) from public consolations.

There is, of course, a need to renew focus on personalised learning and innovative approaches, SA has to pave the way for a brighter future for its students. 

Trouble for online schools in South Africa. This caused a stir among parties of interest in the online school space in the country, and several schools had to issue statements clarifying the confusion and concerns raised over online qualifications.

Darren Maule, the host of East Coast Breakfast and a parent with a child in high school, came across the online article that piqued his interest.

According to The BELA bill, the aim will be to make significant changes to schools across the country. This may include the power of school governing bodies being reduced or even forcing homeschooled learners to be registered.

The General Secretary of the National Association of School Governing Bodies, Matakanye Matakanya, has insisted the Department of Basic Education is within its rights to monitor the education of children, whether in schools or at home.

In a video, Matakanye spoke his mind and what the association will be doing to ensure the department does their job for the students.
