How does one avoid the dreaded snore?
One thing that can be so annoying is hearing someone snoring when you are trying to sleep.
According to the Mayo Clinic, 'snoring is the hoarse/harsh sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe'.

So what exactly causes snoring and how can you stop yourself from doing it?
According to Dr Alessandro Bianchi, snoring can be brought on by an unhealthy lifestyle, as well as other factors, so below are some tips to help you avoid irritating those around you:
Follow a healthy and balanced diet
Intervening on eating habits is very important to try not to snore.
Having a balanced and healthy diet, as well as making evening meals more digestible and less abundant, will help.

This all can help keep the problem at bay.
Beware of gaining weight
Those who are overweight are prone to snoring.

Fat build up around the pharynx, in the tongue and palate, makes breathing more difficult, thus leading to snoring.
Intensify your physical activity
Doing more intense and constant physical activity like gym or even yoga, can help prevent or limit the problem of snoring.

Also, you should avoid or limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking, especially before bedtime.
Avoid sleeping in a supine position
The supine position is a problem position when it comes to snoring.
According to Steris Healthcare, the supine position is when the person sleeping is face up with their head resting on a pad or pillow and their neck is in a neutral position.

For this reason, it's advisable to avoid falling asleep in this way and to prefer other positions, such as on one's side.
