Unemployment is so high in South Africa, but with small businesses in our local neighbourhoods, opportunities for work in the wholesale and retail sectors are available.
These jobs include your security guard, cashier, trolley operator, shop assistant and the likes.

The Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi has announced the new sectoral determinations for workers in South Africa’s wholesale and retail sectors.
The changes announced are due to take effect from 1 March 2022, alongside recent changes to South Africa’s minimum wage specifications.
This is just the minimum baseline across these sectors; workers can earn a lot more based on their position and the company that they work for.

Supermarkets are some of the largest employers in South Africa, but there is sadly a growing gap between the highest and lowest-paid workers.
Retail groups have announced initiatives to close the wage gap, while the government plans to introduce new legislation to force South African companies to report payscale differences between executives and workers.
