Sardines net off KZN South Coast on Comrades Day
Updated | By Diane Macpherson
The long-awaited Sardine Run has officially kicked off along the KwaZulu-Natal coast. They netted at 8:30am on Comrades Day at Margate Main Beach, and again at 9am at Hibberdene on the South Coast.

Angler News SA podcast host, and fishing expert, Vinesh Soogreem, says it's predicted that the sardines will be heading to the Scottburgh area from Monday.
Depending on the wind direction, we could see them in Durban by next weekend.
"It all depends on how this wind direction goes, and if the sea temperature remains constant at 19 degrees," says Soogreem.
"If the water stays at around 19 degrees Celsius, they will keep moving up the coast," he adds.
Soogreem says sardines – netted this morning - are already being sold on the South Coast and in areas around Durban.
"They're going for around R50 a dozen or R500 a crate,' says Soogreem."
