Only 10% of our population has access to the internet at home or access through public facilities.
When there is a little bit of a delay with your internet, the first thing you think of is if your data or Wi-Fi is depleted.
It is a predicament we are all going through globally - literally everything is on the internet!

The South African government recently shared their ambitious goal of installing universal digital connectivity in SA homes, with a target of making up to 50G of data per month available to every home.
We give this plan a round of applause, truly!
At this point data is somewhat of a basic need.

The high cost of data is one of the main highlights in the National Infrastructure Plan 2050, as well as inequality in internet access across the country.
The short-term goal of the NIP is to make available 10GB monthly data to homes by 2023/4 with an accelerated focus on enhancing service delivery with eHealth and eEducation.
"By 2030, 100% of the population should have easy access to affordable broadband of at least 10 Mbps. All government buildings should have high-speed broadband of at least 100 Mbps, and where relevant participate in leveraging this to underserved areas and communities," it said.

The key pillars of improving digital communication infrastructure by 2050 include:
- Ensuring high-speed broadband is universally accessible;
- Improving public sector capacity to drive the required policy agenda;
- Creating a robust information and communications technology skills base; and,
- Allowing private sector participation to achieve universal broadband access.
We can only hope that when that time comes in the near future all these goals are attained, especially for students.
It will make life so much easier for so many families.
