Remembering soccer legend Phil 'Chippa' Masinga

On Sunday, SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan shared the news of the tragic passing of soccer icon Phil Masinga. We pay tribute to the legend below.

The tweet with the tragic news was published by the official Bafana Bafana account on Sunday. Scores of fans and football teams have been pouring their hearts out with their tributes for the player since.
It is said that Masinga had spent time in hospital in December after battling a long illness. He was just 49.
His football career stems as far as the Premier League in England, where he played for Leeds United with Lucas Radebe in the 90's. Before his move to Europe, Masinga enjoyed an incredibly prolific period with Mamelodi Sundowns between 1991 and 1994.
The legend will forever be remembered for scoring the qualifying goal for Bafana Bafana to play in the 1998 World Cup in France.
