Scientists allege that this is the first time an orca has been filmed killing a great white shark. 

Rare new footage has captured a 60-year-old grandmother orca, named Sophia, battling a great white shark. Social media users have been utterly astounded by the incident that was captured in the ocean.

As captured in the viral videos above, this brawl is unlike anything we have ever seen. 


This rare but fatal encounter was captured as part of the National Geographic limited series, “Queens."

The video showed the orca, named Sophia, charge and take a chomp out the shark.

Orcas, commonly known as killer whales, can reach lengths of almost 30 feet and weigh up to six tons. 

They are social creatures that usually reside in pods, collaborating to hunt for food. The solitary approach to the shark attack could be an adjustment influenced by climate change.

There seems to be a rise in aggression among orcas, as evidenced by multiple incidents in recent years of these whales attacking ships. Some of these attacks appeared to be driven by a sense of vengeance.
