A royal wardrobe triumph
The late and great Princess Diana was known for many things but the one that has recently been circulating the news is her iconic fashion sense.
A dress that was once owned and worn by the royal Princess was auctioned off. Little did Julien's Auctions know just how alluring this antique piece would be.

Talk about a style time machine! Princess Diana's fab ballerina-length gown, designed by Jacques Azagury was up for auction. The dress first made waves in Florence 1985 and later at the Vancouver Symphony in 1986.
Guess what? This dazzling dress, plus a sweet illustration to match, just scored a jaw-dropping R20,174,990 ($1,148,080) at auction. That is 11 times more than folks thought it would snag at R1,834,090 ($100,000). This is fashion royalty at its finest.

Not much is known about the person behind this pricey purchase.
According to Julien's Auctions, "The dress with padded shoulder pads features a black velvet bodice with embroidered stars in metallic thread made from Jakob Schlaepher fabric with a two-tier royal blue organza skirt with a sash and bow. The ballerina skirt was the perfect nod to Diana's love of dance and her being a patron of The English National Ballet."

There were other items sold at the auction such as a blush pink chiffon Emanuels blouse that Princess Diana wore in her engagement photo.
The designer behind these iconic dresses fetching high prices at auctions shares with PEOPLE, “the whole collection means a lot to me, and the only reason I am selling them is because as of five weeks ago, I retired."
So that's a wrap for the career of Azagury.
