Johannesburg (1 August 2023) Ardagh Glass Packaging-Africa is delighted to announce the new Consol Solar Jar® launch.
Building on the beloved classic first launched in 2011, this completely upgraded version combines advanced solar technology with exciting new features, creating the most powerful and innovative Solar Jar® yet.

At its core, the concept remains unchanged. The Consol Solar Jar® is a solar lantern with a module (panel) replacing the lid of the iconic Consol jar that has been around for generations.
This is, perhaps, the secret behind the Solar Jar's popularity—it's not just a light, but a versatile display tool, because whatever it’s filled with is beautifully illuminated with sunny light.
This
enables users to creatively present scenes and themes, making it particularly
valuable for the decor, travel, and restaurant industries, and of course each
and every South African.
The new Consol Solar Jar® standout feature is its powerful solar module, which transforms it into a lantern and doubles as a compact,
pocket-sized solar-powered light. Crafted from durable, rust and
weather-resistant materials, it's built to last.
Customers can choose to purchase the new solar module separately (without the jar) or trading in their old solar module for a discounted price on a new one.

A shining example of South African innovation, the new Consol Solar Jar® now also offers the following:
- Double the amount of shine time to more than 24 hours.
- Adjustable brightness ranging from a gentle 5 lumens to an impressive 100 lumens, allowing for customised lighting.
- USB backup charging, where just 10 minutes of charging gives you up to 10 hours of light.
- Warm-white LED lights for a sunny glow.
- Colour-coded battery light indicator to easily monitor power levels.
- Safety light mode. Weather resistant.
Technology aside, its positive impact truly sets the Consol Solar Jar® apart.
Not only is it sustainable to use, it’s kind to the environment in its production too, with great care being taken to minimise CO2 emissions and source raw materials responsibly.
Plus, it's made locally in South Africa with Fair Trade principles and a commitment to making a real difference for the people who produce it.
As Ardagh Glass Packaging representative and brand manager Marlene Scott, puts it, "Creating a world-class product is essential, but equally important is our commitment to making a difference.
By buying The Consol Solar Jar®, you’re literally helping to make the world a little brighter, one jar at a time."
