MTV underfire for racist Golden Globe tweet
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
MTV Australia is called out by fans after a distasteful tweet about two actresses during the Golden Globe Awards.

MTV Australia has been heavily criticised for a tweet calling for “English subtitles”, after Latina actors America Ferrera and Eva Longoria presented a Golden Globe during the broadcast of Sunday night’s awards show.
“Where are the English subtitles? We have no idea what @AmericaFerrera and @EvaLongoria are saying #GoldenGlobes,” tweeted MTV Australia.
I would call you out on this @MTVAUSTRALIA but as I'm Latina, you might not understand what I'm typing here. pic.twitter.com/942hB7mVrW

@ellaceron @MTVAUSTRALIA *Their* joke was "you think we all look alike". MTV's joke was "& their accents are SO heavy we can't understand".

The tweet was quickly removed after it was denounced by other Twitter
users for being “offensive” and “racist”. Others said the comment was in
“poor taste”, particularly because during the presentation Ferrera and
Longoria poked fun at the way Latina actors are regularly mistaken for
one another.
A follow up tweet from MTV Australia:
We get it was a bad call. We’ll leave the humour to @rickygervais

No further comment from the cable channel was made after that.
