EXCLUSIVE: Meet Midmar Mile winners Tory Earle and Nick Sloman

Talent, dedication, and a local win on our airwaves...
In case you missed it, this past weekend was the annual Midmar Mile event.
The aQuellé Midmar Mile is one of the world's premier open-water swimming events hosted right here in our province at, you guessed it, Midmar Dam.
This weekend we witnessed an exhilarating display of talent and determination. Among the standout performers were Tory Earle and Nick Sloman, two extraordinary athletes who emerged as the champions of this iconic race in their respective categories.

Their remarkable achievements not only added another chapter to the storied history of the Midmar Mile, but also solidified their positions as elite open-water swimmers.
Tory Earle's race
Hailing from Kloof, Tory Earle claimed her first aQuellé Midmar Mile title in the women's race. Despite the challenging conditions, Tony emerged as the early leader in the women's race, surging ahead alongside her training partner, Carli Antonopoulos.
Eventually, she managed to create some distance between them. Tory Earle crossed the finish line with a time of 20:49, securing the victory, while Antonopoulos finished second with a time of 21:14.

Nick Sloman's race
Nick Sloman was far from a slow man in this year's Midmar Mile. Competing among thousands of swimmers, Nick was crowned the winner with a stellar performance. The Australian swimmer was dubbed "the man to beat" heading into this competition and, gosh, did he live up to the name!
All eyes were on Nick Sloman for the men’s elite race and his clinical win left him with a legacy on the East Coast.
It will be another year until we bring you the latest news on this event.
