LISTEN: Sky Tshabalala chats to the legend that is Ronald Dlamini, the blind MMA champion:
Meet the man making history and not letting his inability to see keep him away from the ring!
In 2009, Ronald Dlamini became the first black MMA champion in South African history by claiming the welterweight title.
Then his life changed forever.
Ronald was in a fight in New Zealand when he was rushed to the hospital. He was in a coma for 10 days, diagnosed with meningitis, leaving him blind.
However, this life-changing illness did not stop Ronald from reaching for his dreams. Instead, Dlamini’s sudden lack of sight gave him a new vision for his future.
Today, Ronald trains beginners, as well as a self-defence programme for the visually impaired based on MMA.
