Nothing
says we’re in a pandemic more than a sunburn shaped like a face mask…
As South Africa enters its second vaccination phase, it’s still important as ever to sanitise, keep a social distance, and wear a face mask in public. As the world adapts to this new way of life, people are discovering how wearing a mask changes their day-to-day lives. Twenty-year-old Nick Murray showcases this with a hilarious prank on TikTok.
In the video, viewers were left in stitches after Nick joked that he fell asleep at the beach wearing his face mask and was ultimately left with an incredibly embarrassing sunburn.

Nick lives in Mexico with his girlfriend – a place famous for their world-class beaches. In the now viral video, Nick joked that he had accidentally fallen asleep on the beach while wearing his COVID-19 face mask – a mistake so many around the world can relate to.
However, the sunburn wasn’t real. In fact, Nick admits that he used a filter to convince his followers that the story was real and that he was left with the embarrassing tan lines.

The video quickly gained over one million views on the app with one user commenting: "Well heck. Also, why are you wearing a mask at the beach, and also that looks like a filter." Another added: “Question is... why are you wearing a mask on the beach? You're outside.”

More social savvy users, however, quickly realised that the video was a prank. "It's a filter, totally see the lines move," one TikTok user added.
Nick confirmed that the tan lines were, in fact, a filter. "I'm currently just out here living in a TikTok house with other creators and yes it is a filter," Nick admitted. "I thought the reaction online was funny but that's what it's all about!"
