Liverpool Academy of SA a scam: SAFCA
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
The Liverpool Academy of South Africa is not benefiting the country in terms of developing football.
The Liverpool International Academy of South Africa is officially sanctioned by the Liverpool Football Club of England.
This 'academy' started in Durban in 2014 and in recent months has also branched out to Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Since the beginning of 2016 there have been serious signs of cash flow problems like not being able to buy kit for their league teams, not being able to afford to pay for the washing of training bibs and most worrying of all is not being able to pay permanent staff and the coaches since March 2016.
The Liverpool International Academy charges R700 per kid per month and R2000 per kid for a three-day coaching camp.
Some staff members who do not want to be named have been wrongfully dismissed and they have taken the matter up wit the CCMA.
The South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) made it very clear from the beginning that this academy is the worst thing to happen to local football.
