LISTEN: Will eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda take a swim at Umhlanga Main Beach?
Updated | By Darren, Keri and Sky
The DA has turned the heat up on the eThekwini mayor to follow through with his promise...
Today is the 1st of December and it’s not just World Aids Day, something else is apparently happening today too.
It’s also the day eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda will take a swim at Umhlanga Main Beach to prove the beaches are safe for holidaymakers.

This came off the back of the Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal challenging the mayor to prove it was safe to swim.
Darren, Keri, and Sky decided to speak with Msawakhe Mayisela, eThekweni municipality's Senior Manager of Media Relations and City Spokesperson, to find out if the mayor is truly going ahead with the swim.
Listen to the conversation DKS had with Msawakhe:
In case you haven't been following the story, 3 more beaches in eThekwini have been reopened to the public after they passed water quality tests following previously detected high levels of E.Coli.
This is because the water quality of Country Club, Winkelspruit and Anstey's beaches have shown signs of improvement and acceptable standards.

However, eThekwini municipality does state that while water quality at Umdloti, Laguna and Bronze beaches has reached acceptable standards, they will still remain closed for now.
The same also goes for Addington, Brighton, Reunion, South, Westbrook, Umhlanga and eThekwini beaches.
Despite all of this, will our mayor go through with swimming in the beach today? Only time will tell.
He did however, state that he was excited at the prospect of opening Durban to visitors locally in SA and international.
"We are now finalising with the environmental development department to ensure we get a go-ahead to continue freely opening the beaches.
The city will continue working fast to ensure that come 1 December all our beaches will be opened", says Kaunda.
