LISTEN: Durban man stuck in Afghanistan is finally back home in Sherwood

Kerwin van der Merwe from Sherwood spoke to Mike V on his return home.
Do you recall last week when Early Breakfast presenter Mike V had one of his avid listeners share that he is actually in Afghanistan? This was Kerwin van der Merwe from Sherwood, who was there on employment.
The news and social media had been and still are flooded with footage of families hoping to flee the country following the takeover of the Taliban. The withdrawal of the US military forces from the country sparked this upheaval.
Fortunately, while all the trouble erupts, he was able to make his way back home.

The father of four has finally made a return to his home in Sherwood with his family.
Mike V had the chance to talk to him about his journey back home and what it has felt like being away from the chaos in Afghanistan.

So the fire safety officer, who is a family man, shared a voice note which clearly depicted events that were unfolding on that side of the world.
Being a father and husband so far away from his close family and friends was obviously traumatising and scary.
