WATCH: Substation explosion causes blackouts in parts of eThekwini

Rolling blackouts in eThekwini as lightning strike causes power station to explode.
According to eThekwini Municipality, an explosion at the Klaarwater substation has caused widespread power outages to about 50% of areas in Durban.
According to ECR Newswatch, East Coasters living in the city have told Newswatch that areas like Mariannhill, Kloof, Pinetown, Northdene, Gillits, the Bluff, Wentworth and KwaMashu are some of the areas affected by the outage.

Residents have also shared detailed accounts of what is believed to have been explosions at some substations.

eThekwini Municipality shared the following power outage on Facebook:
Please switch off unnecessary loads like aircons and geysers. It will help restore supplies without overload trip outs. It's safer to switch off at DB to avoid surges damaging appliances.- eThekwini Municipality
