Lawyer stole millions from deceased client to buy property

A high-flying lawyer has been exposed for stealing millions from a deceased client’s estate and other clients’ homes.

Alberton attorney Nonhle Nkomonde is on the brink of disbarment after at least 27 clients have accused her of jaw-dropping malpractice involving stolen savings, fraudulent property transfers, and blatant abuse of trust.

One of the most disturbing allegations involves the late Dr David Frank Lubenga, whose life savings worth R2 million allegedly vanished into Nkomonde’s pockets.

Instead of ensuring the money went to his rightful heirs, Nkomonde reportedly used it to buy herself eight properties in Soweto and Orange Farm.

Nkomonde left the family with a mere R9,000 in the deceased’s bank account.

Sadly, the deception didn’t stop there. In another alleged case, a 61-year-old client’s home was fraudulently transferred to Nkomonde’s company without her knowledge.

According to deeds obtained by The Sowetan, Nkomonde sold the property to Nonhle Nkomonde Attorneys Inc. for R300,000, effectively stealing her client’s home.

Wait – there’s more. In 2022, Nkomonde reportedly sold another client’s house for R350,000 but never handed over a cent from the sale. The client was forced to move back into her mother’s home.

Perhaps the most shocking revelation? Nkomonde wasn’t even qualified to handle property transfers or deceased estates.

She was only admitted as an attorney in late 2022, meaning she has allegedly pulled off these crimes in just two and a half years. That’s a stunningly short time for such a massive trail of fraud.

With mounting legal action and calls for her disbarment, Nkomonde’s legal career appears to be crashing as fast as she built her fraudulent empire.

The real question now is: how many more victims are out there?
