KZN third wave predictions may be correct, says Prof Tulio

Durban University of Technology’s Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology believe that KwaZulu-Natal is already experiencing its third wave of COVID-19 infections. We find out the accuracy of this with Professor Tulio de Oliveira.
We are joined once again by the world-renowned bioinformatician, virus hunter, and virologist Prof Tulio de Oliveira from KRISP (Kwazulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platforming) at UKZN.

While there has been speculation and assumptions of KZN experiencing the third wave, DUT students from Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology conducted research that might confirm this. We further consult with the virus expert himself on how accurate the research could be.

As there have been nationwide vaccinations, with senior citizens and health workers prioritised, immediate side effects of the vaccine might have occurred in a few. Prof Tulio clears up the most common side effects and reasoning.

The UK has announced zero daily COVID-19 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Prof Tulio clarifies if it was a result of the lockdown or the vaccine. South Africa could learn a thing or two in that regard.
