Thankfully for us, Wez's dad Anthony Singleton and a friend, Paul Soper, captured this moment on video.

According to IOL, Wez and his friends had stayed behind to catch more waves as they saw these magnificent animals.
"I actually heard them, that's how close they were. When I realised they were whales, I turned around and shouted for my mates to see these whales," says Wez.
It's rare that you experience animals like this up close and personal.

According to IOL, they confirmed with the KZN Sharks Board that the pair were humpback whales.
I was like woah! I surf as well and you see whales out there but you don’t see them breaching like that. I was really taken aback because we go there often. We have a cottage down there and we don’t often see whales that close- Anthony, Wez's friend
