UPDATE: Darren, Keri & Sky talk to KwaDukuza man who planted trees in potholes

The Breakfast team spoke to Rishi Pooran to find out more about the 'banana tree challenge' as a new form of protest and to get an update on the local municipality's response.
A frustrated resident has resorted to planting banana trees in potholes found in his area in the KwaZulu-Natal north coast town of KwaDukuza to grab the attention of the local municipality.
Rishi Pooran decided to try a different form of protest which is now being called the 'banana tree challenge', because he feels that his neighbourhood has been neglected for far too long.

"This is my challenge to all residents who are sick and tired of the poor service delivery by KDM [KwaDukuza Municipality] and iLembe District municipality. Our municipality did the Jerusalema challenge so this is my challenge. Whenever you see a pothole plant a tree, preferably a banana tree as our town is now becoming a banana republic," Pooran was quoted as saying.
According to Pooran, the street has also been plagued with water leaks due to a burst water pipe.
