Kurt Darren's embarrassing performance of the national anthem
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Popular Afrikaans musician Kurt Darren was elected to sing the national anthem at the Varsity Cup final between Maties and Tuks at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch - but it didn't go as expected.
He completely messed up the anthem by repeating the first verse instead of singing the second verse. He eventually completed the anthem, but social media ripped him apart for not knowing his own national anthem.
After making the mistake, you could see the players chuckling to themselves.
As Darren Maule said: "You had one job, and that is to learn the words of your own national anthem."

Dear @StellenboschUni and @FNBSA #VarsityCup. Rather not sing it at all than insult our Nation & African languages. If you don’t have black students to sing the National Anthem, just don’t do it. Nxa. pic.twitter.com/yww6D8qUCl
