There are many insect repellents on the shelves but are they doing more damage than good? Anything that says you should avoid direct contact with skin makes me think twice, and you don’t want anything around that could harm your family, pets or plants.

Lavender! Not only does it smell good but it also makes an amazing repellent from those annoying bugs and mosquitos.
To use this wonder hack, all you need to do is apply lavender (mixed with a carrier oil like coconut oil) to the skin. The advantage of using lavender oil over other chemical repellents is that it is completely natural. It also nourishes the skin with no side-effects - unlike other branded repellents.
As an added bonus, the scent of lavender oil also acts as a relaxant and encourages sleep - so it's the perfect thing to help you get that much-needed shuteye. Ahead of the festive season, it's nice to know that the lavender repellent method can be used for avoiding mosquito bites. It can also help you, and your kids, to get to sleep earlier and be well rested for the next day's activities out and about while you enjoy soaking in the summer sun.

You can also add a few drops of lavender oil to your curtains to repel the mozzies at the window, and having lavender plants at your windows also help keep them away, HOWEVER, applying the lavender straight to the skin is your best bet.
How to apply the lavender:
If you have sensitive skin, mix the essential oil with an aqueous cream or coconut oil and apply it to your wrists, ankles also consider adding a drop under your feet and a drop behind each ear.
Enjoy your ‘peaceful sleep’!
