Keri's Wellness Wednesday: Removing excess oil from fried food
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
This hack will take away the guilt of enjoying your favourite fried foods!
We know fried foods aren’t the best choice if you're looking to slim down or keep the arteries clear, but there are times that call for a simply deliciously crispy fried item of food.
I am sure you know the paper towel hack, where you lay paper towel down on your dish, pop your food from the oil onto the paper towel, and then use MORE paper towel to dab the oil from the top.

However, paper towel isn’t very environmentally friendly and it isn’t cheap.
As an alternative, I saw my dad using this hack and had to share it with you.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Your fried food of choice
- A plate or bowl
- 2 (or more) slices of bread
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
- Layer the bottom of your bowl with the bread (while your food is in the oil).
- When your food is crispy and ready for your belly, just take it out of the oil and place it on top of the bread.
- The bread absorbs all the excess oil and fats. It works like a dream.
And depending on what you were frying, the left overs make a great snack for your four-legged friends. Your normal cooking oils are NOT toxic to animals. But if you're looking for a healthy oil or natural fat to share with your dog, there are better, highly recommended options like coconut oil, fish oil, and olive oil.
