Katy Perry in space? Some people aren’t buying it

Katy Perry blasted into space… or did she? Well, the internet thinks it was all staged, and here's why.

In case you blinked and missed it, Katy Perry and a few other notable women got blasted into space, onboard a rocket that looked suspiciously like something straight out of a bachelorette party store.

Yes, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin took another space mission beyond the Kármán Line (aka the official edge of space, where the air ends and conspiracy theories begin).

The crew also included Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, rocket-scientist-turned-entrepreneur Aisha Bowe, philanthropist Kerianne Flynn, and CBS Mornings host Gayle King.

The six women suited up in Avengers-style flight gear, launched from West Texas, and hit 107km above Earth (just enough to cross into “space”).

They experienced four minutes of weightlessness and returned to Earth in under 11 minutes.

Basically, it was the space equivalent of a quick trip to Woolies for milk and a rotisserie chicken.

The whole thing was streamed live and looked completely legit. It even featured what may go down as the most Katy Perry moment ever.

The singer floated mid-air and serenaded the capsule with 'What a Wonderful World'.

The weirdness didn’t stop there, though. Upon landing, Perry kissed the ground. Repeatedly.

Apparently, when you’ve spent nearly 11 whole minutes in space, touching the ground hits different.

Unsurprisingly, the internet went on a full conspiracy meltdown, with many believing the whole flight was fake.

Twitter (sorry, X) lit up with comments like “It’s all CGI!”, “It was filmed in a Hollywood studio… probably inside a pool!”, and “This was an occult ritual led by Katy Perry and Bezos!”

One Twitter user said: "The Blue Origin Ladies' Flight was FAKE!"

Another user added, "No flight suits. No helmets. No video of them before or during launch. And many more things that show this was fake."

Yes, seriously. According to the web’s finest conspiracy theorists, this wasn’t a scientific mission.

It was a satanic hoax designed to distract the masses (from what, no one knows).

They even dissected the mission patches, trying to spot hidden Illuminati symbols and upside-down goats.

Dr Daniel Jolley, who literally studies the psychology of conspiracy theories, says this is textbook behaviour.

Space plus celebrities equals “prime conspiracy territory” for the simple-minded.

Those are probably the same people who believe the Earth is flat.

Okay – so did they go to space? Technically, yes.

Did it change the world? Probably not.

Was it entertaining? Absolutely.

Was it a Satanic ritual? Unless the devil plays synth behind Perry’s voice, unlikely.

Whether you think it was inspiring, ridiculous, or just a waste of rocket fuel, it got everyone talking and tweeting.

What happens now? Well, we wait for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour: Mars Edition.” You know it’s coming.
