Instagram reels have taken over Darren's feed
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Reels have become his latest obsession because "Language is very limiting but images are *reel" .
According to Darren, the reels feature is "confessions of the soul" kind of social media.
With 15 reels created in less than a month, we had to find out what ignited his new favourite feature on social media.
Darren's personality already shines through the radio, but his Instagram page has always been a space where he gets to be funnier, probably because he is less censored, and that is his space. Well, now he has taken it up a notch with his new love for creating reels.
His first reel captured him ziplining at Karkloof Canopy Tours:
He initially tried TikTok but felt uncomfortable in the space as his audience also lives more on Facebook and Instagram. "Reels are basically TikTok for boomers", he said.
He might be referring to himself as a 'boomer' but effortlessly jumped on the Instagram feature without a hassle - no tutorials or anything. He says this with almost 100k views in total for his reels.
Some say reels are best suited for fashion and food; some say they are best suited for decor and dance videos. We won't deny that these categories definitely shine in terms of content for reels and are the most pleasurable to watch. Darren Maule hits the nail on the head, though, with his statement that there is no particular category best suited for reels. It is evident with his own repertoire.
He has reels in the categories of food, dance, 'Get to know me', comedy, and so many more, making a perfect representation of him. He is a father and a partner to his Anna; he is fun, hilarious and quirky; he plays in the kitchen a little, dances a little and drips with swag now and then.
When asked what makes the most brilliant reel, he shares, "Don't try use text or tell a long story. Take good music, images of life around you and put it there. That's it"
So Darren's favourite reels are from the cake company Chateau Gateaux with many more videos he gets lost in when on the app. His favourite video of his own is this one:
He didn't think he would break into a dance but a video of American actor, Christopher Walken inspired his cool moves in this one.
One of Darren's favourite things about the reel option is that it connects you with your followers no matter the language barrier. He initially found it tricky sharing content that's witty and funny as he was are never certain how people will receive the message. With reels, he just simply had to be himself or perform as the trained actor he is and that was the most efficient and fun means of interaction with his followers.
This is his most liked reel at the moment:
And this is his most viewed reel at the moment:
Darren's advice for people who are skeptically about the reel option is:
People are on your page for you - nothing else. So, put yourself in your reels as people want to experience you and have fun.
