South Africa is no stranger to loadshedding. While it may not be a pleasant experience, it is a reality for many.
However, what if we told you that you could hack your way to reliable power in the face of loadshedding?

According to ECR NewsWatch, the Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says it's not possible to consign loadshedding to history by the end of the year.
After the KZN floods last year (2022) in April, the city's loadshedding was reduced to address the disaster and fix power lines.
In a statement on Friday last week, the city says that while the damaged infrastructure has not yet fully been reinstalled, normal loadshedding had to return.
So, the Breakfast with Darren Maule team decided to bring you some solutions to the headache of loadshedding...
Sky's hack
Turn off all of the lights 10 minutes before loadshedding, then light a fire and braai some steaks.
Have dinner and then turn all of the lights on again, completely sidestepping the emotional damage of the power going out.

Jayshree's hack
Download something on your phone to watch, but always make sure you have a power bank that is fully charged.
That way, if the power doesn’t come on after loadshedding, you don’t have to panic about your phone being flat.

Darren's hack
Ten minutes before loadshedding, switch off all of the heavy power appliances like the air con and the swimming pool pump, that way the grid doesn’t have to support 1,000 pool pumps and 2,000 air conditioners that all demand power at the same time.
