How South Africa is fighting HIV/Aids

The Centre for the Aids Programme of Research in South
Africa (Caprisa) spoke to the team about their HIV prevention programme, “A pill
a day”.

According to World Atlas Online, South Africa has the fourth-highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate with 18.90% of the population testing positive for the virus. Lack of education, misguided beliefs about the disease, and sexual violence have contributed to these high rates.
Women under the age of 40, including pregnant women, are most affected. The team spoke to Professor Kogie Naidoo about the recent stats and what is being done to assist the 7.7 million people who are affected by HIV.

She also gave a detailed breakdown about the new HIV prevention programme called “A pill a day”, which refers to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment.
