#HeartStuff: Spina Bifida won't stop this rugby player

The 18-year-old son of a domestic worker born with a spinal condition will not let his illness get in the way of his dreams.

Siyanda Mfeka Rugby
Siyanda Mfeka will not let his birth defect get in the way of a tackle! He was born with a spine condition called Spina Bifida and has had huge difficulties getting to and from school for most of his life.

The 18-year-old son of a domestic worker found a sport that encouraged him to face his daily challenge of living with the condition. When he uncovered his passion for rugby three years ago at his school's sports field, he sat on the sidelines, crutches in hand, and cheered the teams on.

But his overwhelming desire to play the game got him out of the stands, and he slowly but surely started beating his illness. His progress in the sport has been so remarkable that he was selected to tour with the school team to Johannesburg from 20 May 2016.

We caught up with the rising star and had a huge surprise for him:

A big thank you to Mahomed Amra - MD of Solly M Sports for the generous donation towards the young rugby star.

We wish you all the best Siyanda, make us proud!
