Grandmother dies when gender reveal goes horribly wrong

Pamela Kreimeyer from Knoxville, Iowa died instantly after being struck in the head during a gender reveal celebration gone wrong.

As has become the norm for expectant parents in the 21st century, a gender reveal party is thrown to find out if it's a boy or girl. However, for one couple, the celebration turned into a tragedy.
According to SkyNews, authorities say the couple were experimenting with explosives - hoping to create a viral stunt for social media, when tragedy struck.

They filled a metal cylinder with gunpowder they believed would fire coloured powder into the sky. But police said that by covering the top of the cylinder, it exploded like a pipe bomb, sending shrapnel flying across a field.
The grandmother-to-be was killed by a piece of the flying metal.

Kreimeyer was 14 meters from the device, and when it was launched it flew another 132 meters.
