Gift Ngoepe: SA's very own Major League Baseball player
Updated | By Sky Tshabalala
There is one man who is definitely putting South Africa on the map!
While the rest of South Africa was celebrating Freedom Day on Thursday, 27 April will now also be remembered as the day a certain young man from Polokwane made Major League Baseball history.
Gift Ngoepe became the first African player to make his MLB debut, featuring for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Chicago Cubs.
For me, this is one of the greatest achievements ever by a South African sportsperson.
It just shows that if you really want to pursue your dreams, nothing can ever stop you.

South Africans are not known for being all that into baseball, and even though we have it in the country, it's not supported at all and is not taken as seriously as sports like football, rugby, and cricket.
It really is a massive achievement!
