Gary Gold opens up about leaving the Sharks
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
It is no secret that the departure of Cell C Sharks director of rugby Gary Gold last week came as a shock to many rugby fans.
Gold spent two years in KZN where he had a mixed bag of results in his tenure.
Regarded as one of world rugby leading coaches Gold managed to stabilize the ship at Kings Park after the departure of Jake White in 2014.
A man who strongly believed in the youth and promoted a number of youngsters to the Super Rugby scene and also brought some big names into the franchise.
Coenie Oosterhuizen, Ruan Botha and Willie Le Roux were amongst the few big names Gold managed to bring to the Sharks and also restored the team culture that had somewhat gone missing in the last season or two.
Gold didn't leave the trophy cabinet full but he sure left his footprint of development and a healthy and competitive culture within Sharks rugby.
I had the pleasure of knowing Gold as a coaching and a friend and I can honestly say he is one of the most genuine bloke I have ever met.
But the question remains - Why is he leaving?
Well, East Coast Breakfast caught up with the legend himself to look back at his career in Durban and also find out what's the next chapter in his coaching career.
