You'll be paying a little fee...
The price of fuel is ridiculously high across the entire globe.
It only makes sense for the delivery and driving services to get a little help in this department.

A fee of 45 cents or 55 cents per trip will be applied for your rides.
UberEats will add 35 cents or 45 cents for those food/drink orders.
The Uber in San Fransisco, US is making this available for their drives for the next 60 days.

The surcharge will depend on location and trip length with "100% of that money going directly to workers' pockets," Liza Winship, head of driver operations in the U.S. and Canada, said. (Bloomberg)
"Our hope is that this temporary measure will help ease the burden, but we'll continue to listen to feedback and may make changes in the future."
So this may obviously be hard for the consumers, but it is necessary and fair taking into consideration fuel is truly expensive at the moment.
They will be applying this to the entire United States.
In South Africa, people are more likely to just take the taxi because the cost of living is high and Uber is a little costly.
