Former Springbok legend André Joubert auctions 1994 Rugby World Cup blazer for a good cause
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
André Joubert is widely known
as "The Rolls-Royce of Fullbacks", thanks to his pace, class, and seemingly
effortless style. The former Springbok player is now an active businessman but still enjoys a good rugby match. He joined us in studio this past Friday with a surprise in hand.
André Joubert is one of the most respected and talented rugby players of all time. He was instrumental in South Africa winning the Rugby World Cup in 1994.
With all the negativity that has been spread in South Africa recently, he felt strongly that the nation could use some positivity - a reason to feel good about the country again and a dose of unity. In line with former President Nelson Mandela’s sentiment that sport can bring unity and positivity, he wanted to play a part again.
It is for this reason that Joubert opened up his heart and generously donated his Springbok blazer to East Coast Radio, which was worn during the 1994 Rugby World Cup. Even though the garment contains huge sentimental value, he believes it can be used for the greater good.
East Coast Radio will hold a silent auction for the blazer, and all proceeds will go towards East Coast Radio’s 2019 Toy Story Campaign.
Details to bid in the action
SMS 'Auction', 'Your name', and 'Bid Price' to 33116. SMS's cost R1,50. T’s & C’s apply.
You could be announced as the proud owner of this exclusive piece of Rugby World Cup memorabilia. The blazer will be mounted and framed and will have verification of its authenticity for your ownership.
The Rugby World Cup in Japan is currently being covered by East Coast Drive's G-Dog powered by Hollywoodbets. The tournament brings back sweet memories for Joubert from his time playing for the Boks during the most crucial time in South Africa's history.
