Chinese authorities said they would ease a months-long COVID-19 lockdown in the country’s far western region of Xinjiang “in stages”, following protests over a deadly fire at an apartment building in the regional capital of Urumqi. Hundreds chanted “Step down, Xi Jinping! Step down, Communist Party!” in an unprecedented show of defiance against the country’s stringent and increasingly costly zero-COVID-19 policy.

2. 

'Squid Game' actor O Yeong-su has been charged with sexual misconduct. He plays the role of the old man. In January, he became the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe award for best supporting actor.

Award-winning bass-baritone Simon Shibambu filled South Africans with pride on Saturday night as he performed the South African national anthem, 'Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika', at Twickenham in London ahead of the England vs South Africa… and sang with his whole heart.

4. 

Eskom will suspend loadshedding for five hours early Monday morning before resuming a rotation of stage 1 and stage 2 loadshedding on Monday. It said this was possible after PetroSA provided millions of litres of diesel.

The South African Reserve Bank has gazetted the new designs for the 2023 Fourth Decimal Coin Series of South Africa, which will become legal tender from 1 January 2023. Imagine a R5 with a whale on it! We have pics of all of them on ecr.co.za!
