The World Health Organisation announced on Monday that “mpox” is now the preferred name for monkeypox. Apparently, both names will be used simultaneously for one year while ‘monkeypox’ is phased out. Scientists and experts have pushed since the start of the recent outbreak to change the name to avoid discrimination and stigma that could steer people away from testing and vaccination.

Sharks head coach Sean Everitt has stepped down from his post just 24 hours after his team suffered a humiliating 35-0 defeat to Cardiff at Kings Park on Sunday.

Durban businessman and restaurateur David Manal has cleared up the confusion about the newly-opened Zuma restaurant at the Pearls of Umhlanga, north of Durban. Manal said former president Jacob Zuma had nothing to do with the restaurant, but had been invited as a guest to its official opening.

According to the online payment platform PayFast, the highest amount spent by a shopper on Black Friday this year was R397,217. It was done in just two purchases, with the biggest of those baskets - totalling R284,625, bought sometime between 03:00 and 04:00 on Friday morning.
