Operation Dudula members protested outside the Engen petrol station in Brixton, Johannesburg, calling for it to employ South Africans only as petrol attendants. Placards read ''Put South Africans first; Non-rare skills jobs for South Africans only; No foreign nationals must be given jobs; and Foreigners must go fix their countries.’’

The hosts of the upcoming South African Film and Television Awards have been announced. They include Mpho 'Popps' Modikoane and Khutso Theledi. The awards, which will be hosted virtually, take place on Friday and Saturday.

Comrades Marathon winner Tete Dijana, who is a security guard, received a R100,000 bonus from his employer, the Mi7 National Group. And he will get a month's paid leave to recover. They will also look at remunerating him for the three months of paid leave he had to take to train.

A Nebraska man celebrated his 60th birthday last week by floating down the Missouri River in a 383-kilogram pumpkin named 'Berta' - and likely set a new world record in the process. He did the 61 Kilometer journey in an effort to squash the previously-held 40-kilometer pumpkin paddle record.

Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, has died at the age of 91 after a long illness. He led the Soviet Union from 1985 until its collapse in 1991 and is credited with ending the Cold War.
