Spanish prosecutors said they would seek a prison sentence of more than eight years against global music superstar Shakira after she rejected a plea deal on accusations of tax evasion.

Traffic officers caught four men siphoning containers of diesel from the fuel tank of a parked truck in the Western Cape while the driver was asleep inside. The suspects had managed to siphon off about 125 litres by the time officers arrived. A Toyota Quantum with its number plates removed, used by the suspects to store the fuel, was impounded along with several drums and pipes.

A passenger traveling from Bali, Indonesia to Australia found themselves paying a hefty price for a McDonald's breakfast. The unnamed traveler was handed a fine of 2,664 Australian dollars (R31,000) after two undeclared egg and beef sausage McMuffins and a ham croissant were found in the luggage on arrival at Darwin Airport.
