Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton broke his silence on Saturday with his first social media post since last year's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He uploaded a photograph of himself at what appeared to be the Grand Canyon in the US with this caption:

A restaurant named after Johannesburg's University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) offers biltong, braai meat, and local beer. It recently opened in Dallas, Texas. It's not just the restaurant's name and some of its dishes which draw inspiration from South Africa, some of the décor also has a touch of Johannesburg.

Durban North resident, David Williams, will don the colours of The Cows as he sets out to swim the aQuellé Midmar Mile on Saturday, February 12, to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Association of South Africa (CHOC). 

Born without legs, the 34-year-old para-swimmer has already done the Mile four times, but now wants to channel his energy into the charity element of the world’s biggest open water swim. We’ll see if we can speak to him a bit later.

A New Zealand parrot swiped a GoPro from its owners and managed to film the crime as it flew off. After the bird landed, the camera continued filming as the bird made a frenzied attack on the kit, issuing its high-pitched cry.

Three people were reported dead in south-eastern Madagascar on Sunday after cyclone Batsirai made landfall, leaving a trail of devastation, including collapsed buildings, power cuts, and flooding.
