Excuse me? R3k for lamb curry...

A woman has gone viral on social media after sharing her Valentine's dinner bill of over R8,000. However, it's the lamb curry that caught everyone's attention.

Welcome to South Africa – where load shedding is unpredictable, but one thing remains constant: people spending ungodly amounts of money at restaurants.

First, we had the Pretoria guy who casually dropped over a million rand on a night out.

Then there was the R93k club spender, whose bank account is probably still recovering.

Now, a KZN woman has entered the chat, swiping her way to internet fame with an R8,453.50 dinner bill at a luxury Umhlanga restaurant.

While hefty restaurant bills aren’t unheard of, the real shocker here is that she apparently paid R3,595 for a single plate of lamb curry. That’s more than the cost of an actual live lamb.

Adding to the disbelief, a 750ml bottle of still water was priced at a staggering R90 – leaving many people questioning the restaurant’s pricing.

Users took to the comments to express their shock at the insane prices of the restaurant.

“Did I just see R3,595 for Lamb... that must be a private school lamb,” said @RamphiriMpho.

“Where is this Lamb from? I mean that’s the price of a living lamb just to get a piece nyana not even a leg nooo I’m glad I’m not the target market,” asked @Sassy_247.

“So Appletiser is cheaper than still water,” wrote @Simphiweyinkoci.

Thankfully, African Elixir jumped onto the comments to set the record straight. The Umhlanga restaurant was running a Valentine’s Day special where customers paid R3,595 for a bottle of French Champagne, flowers and a four-course meal.

Although, if we’re being real, that’s still an insane amount of money to pay for food.

For that price, the lamb should have personally served the meal and done a little dance.
