ECR's Top 5: Jobs to do during the holidays for students

The school holidays are fast approaching with schools in KwaZulu-Natal closing this week or next for the June/July break. Universities will also be going on break.

For those who may find themselves stuck at home - and bored, here are some opportunities to earn a little extra cash or volunteer at:

1. Babysitter

Looking after someone else’s child can be considered a rather easy task for an older teenager. You may need basic first aid training and it would help if you have previously babysat so that you can gather references that will help to create a reputation.

If you have younger siblings or cousins, then babysitting comes naturally, so why not give this a go?

2. Lifeguard 

With more and more holiday visitors entering the province, the beach is going to be the main attraction. So, becoming a lifeguard is the job that can be extremely important in this regard.

This job would require you to know how to swim and, of course, the basic rules of the ocean. In KwaZulu-Natal alone, there are many beaches along the coast line that even offer lifeguard coaching, so this is something to consider.

3. Coffee maker

Fancy becoming a Barista? Working at a coffee shop is another hustle one can do. 

A barista would need to be proficient with their coffee making skills, but the role is as much about giving a customer the pleasant experience as it is about serving beverages.

4. Waiter 

It's not a glamorous job, but it is perfect for kids who want some extra cash.

Being a waiter will mean that you're on your feet all day. So it's important to have bundles of energy and the will to keep going.

5. Promotional work

You'd need to be slightly older for this line of work, so university students would be ideal for this. This opportunity would be great if you have a good personality. 

With this job, you would need to market a place or whatever it is that they would need you to market or sell to the public. It can be anything from perfume to clothes to even an event.

So with this line of work, being hands on, thinking on your feet, knowing how to sell an idea to someone, as well as being a social person would make you the perfect fit.
